Wines from Vinya l’Hereu are elaborated in a small village called Seró, within the municipality of Artesa de Segre in the county of La Noguera. In the appellation Costers del Segre, sub-zone Artesa.
Vinya l’Hereu de Seró is a family-owned wine producer, with a long tradition on wine-growing, that elaborates wines through own grape harvest.
Vineyards are at foot of Montsec mountain range, soil mostly deep limestone, with an excellent microclimate for the vine growing and wine elaboration. Influenced by the Pyrenees, 450mt above sea level. It is a rough territory, scorching in summer and cold in winter with low average rainfall. This weather conditions help the grapes to ripe.
Presently 14 hectares of vineyards are mostly planted with Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Practising ecological viticulture and registered in the Catalan Council of Organic Agricultures (Consell Català de la Producció Agrària Ecològica).The aim of working land with respect to the environment helps to obtain good wines. Production criteria to give each vineyard the minimum necessary, so that high quality is obtained with detriment to the quantity.
Harvesting is done by hand, respecting skills passed down through the ages. By the end of September, early October starts the vintage. Wines are stored and aged until they reach their maturity and then further aged in a bottle.
Due to the interest to promote and preserve the natural balance and biological process, which should obtain red wines with characteristics. The delightful wine is made by work and feeling, respecting vineyards and mother nature. It requires the delicate handling, which combines personality and special features of Seró lands. There are several factors to consider when we talk about wine but innovating new methods and keeping the principles of winemaking helps to get a good wine.
