Festive Fizz: Celebrating the Top 50 Sparkling Wines of 2025 – Awards & Scores Announced

December 11, 2024 – The 50 Great Sparkling Wines of the World competition marks its 15th year with a showcase of new talent, reaffirming its reputation as a global benchmark for excellence in sparkling wine. Unlike many competitions where familiar names dominate, this event continues to surprise, unveiling exceptional new producers that captivate wine importers, distributors and retailers worldwide.

As a selective and prestigious competition, 50 Great Sparkling Wines of the World attracts only producers confident in their ability to rank among the best. Each year, a panel of three to five expert judges convenes in Spain’s renowned High Penedès region for a two-day, open-minded, and rigorous assessment of sparkling wines from around the globe.

Judging with Precision

Entries are evaluated based on their production methods:

  • Traditional Method Bubbles: Grouped by dosage levels and time on the lees.
  • Charmat Method Bubbles & Frizantes: Categorized by dosage.

2025 Highlights:

This year, fresh faces made their mark:

  • Domaine du Chant d’Eole (Belgium) claimed the top honor with their Cuvée Reserve, scoring an impressive 98 points.
  • Croatia’s Misal Winery – Đordano Peršurić dazzled with two standout entries: Misal Blanc de Noirs (97 points) and Misal Istria (95 points).
  • Austria’s Weinviertler Sektmanufaktur earned a Gold Medal (95 points) for their Zweigelt Rosé Reserve Brut.
  • Italy’s Cormòns KREMÄUN Brut (Friuli Venezia Giulia) impressed judges with 96 points.

The competition also honors producers who consistently deliver outstanding quality. Gold Medal highlights include:

  • Jané Santacana (Penedès, Spain)
  • Bodegas Langa (Calatayud, Spain)
  • Valados de Melgaço (Vinhos Verdes – Monção e Melgaço, Portugal)
  • La Scolca (Piemonte, Italy)
  • DiGiorgio Family Wines (Coonawarra, South Australia)

In the Charmat category, Bacio della Luna (Veneto, Italy) shone with their Prosecco DOCG Extra Dry, reaffirming their excellence.
