The most exciting Sparkling wines for 2022 by Wine Pleasures
After tasting and rating 164 entries to the annual competition 50 Great Sparkling Wines of the World 2022, and assessing them on colour, aromas, harmony, complexity and taste, our three expert judges compiled the top 50 according to method of production. Anthony Swift competition Director reports.
This year’s entries provided a beautiful selection of bubblies that showed real diversity, both geographically and sylisitically. While Cava and Prosecco were well represented, we also had sparkling wines from Argentina, Australia, Chile, Moldova, Slovenia and the UK as well as a high number of entries from Portugal.
Over 2 enjoyable days the effervescences were tasted blind by our panel of 5 judges according to method of production, dosage and for the Traditional Method also time on the lees. Swift summed up by saying that “While the global fizz market may well be dominated by Champagne, Cava and Prosecco, the fizz making world is diversifying and there are plenty of enjoyable and memorable options for wine lovers to whet their appetite.
So if you are looking for exciting and delicious fizz this festive season and in 2022 – be it made using the Ancestral, Traditional or Charmat method – you are guaranteed to find it here in our top 50 Sparkling Wines of the World. We hope they will become some of your favourites too.
